Have you noticed? It is almost summer! Time to make some summer plans…
Luckily (I guess) I still have heaps of vacation time left before leaving my job. So I’m now making plans what I’ll do this summer… after all, what is a single gay boy (ok, the boy bit is maybe a bit stupid)… so what is a relatively newly single gay guy to do?
Lisbon is obviously high on the agenda. Not least because I have started to learn Portuguese … so it is time to practice those skills. And learn a bit more… more about that in the next post about learning Portuguese!
While I’m in Lisbon, Madrid Pride is taking place. I never quite managed to get to it before – often because it coincided with London Pride, and I usually was busy on those days for the charities I volunteered for here in London. This year it is not only not on the same day as London Pride – but, I’ll also be a lot closer. So I decided to head along there.
My original plan was to take the RENFE Trenhotel from Lisbon to Madrid. This is basically a night train going between Lisbon and Madrid. So you could, for example, take the train on Friday night in Lisbon, arrive in Madrid Saturday morning… and take the train back Sunday night … arriving in Lisbon Monday morning. It seems like a really cool way to travel… and a nice change from airplanes (and more eco-friendly). Unfortunately I must have done something wrong with the RENFE website, as I couldn’t book the tickets until about a week ago. As I was keen to finalise my plans early, I eventually settled for flying… but I’ll be sure to try the Trenhotel another time.
After Lisbon, I’ll be heading back to London to finalise all the moving … (wish me luck!). Luckily one of my best friends is getting married later this year… and as I’m his best man I’m trying to convince him to go for a stag do rather than just me giving a speech at his wedding. I’m not sure if I’ll be successful, but I’m trying to convince him to come with me to the Pink Lake Festival in Austria. I went to it a few years back, and it was a lot of fun … while at the same time it wasn’t quite as full on as other gay festivals. All in all a pretty relaxed thing… So please, please cross your fingers that he will come along!
Finally… I have to say hello to my mother in Germany. Not one of my favourite visits I have to say (small town….), but hey… there we go. At least it will give me a chance to see some friends again,… and store a lot of the stuff I accumulated in London over the years at my mother’s place (luckily she has a big house…).
Of course, if you are around any of these places/events, please say hi … and maybe we can meet for a drink or two! See you then 😉 … Até logo…. Hasta luego… Bis bald!
